While proximity to the beach is a key consideration for many homebuyers, for others the serene inland charm of fishing villages like Little River defines the good life. With a historic waterfront that’s host to annual Blue Crab Festival, the oldest community in Horry County is also one of its most livable with exceptionally priced real estate and a strong sense of community.

With its modern history stretching back to early Colonial America, Little River saw its first presidential visit by George Washington in the late 1700s and played an important role in pirate lore and the Civil War. Known for a relaxing and laid back lifestyle with a good stock of housing, some of the best values to be found on the Grand Strand are available here. While it’s just a short drive to the beaches of North Myrtle Beach, home prices in Little River are less than comparable homes elsewhere. And because there are no city taxes and low county taxes, the cost of living here is less as well.

 

With a good selection of condos starting under $50K, prices for the most part top out in the low to mid $300s. Single-family homes are available form under $100K to $1 million plus. Little River also offers a good selection of condos and single-family homes along the Intracoastal Waterway. Popular neighborhoods include LIghtkeepers Village, Cypress Bay, Harbour Ridge, and Eagles Nest.

 

Home to a number of marinas and fishing charters, Little River is also home to the state’s only two Vegas-style casino boats, that set sail twice a day for 5-hour trips to International Waters for gaming. Just north of Little River is Calabash, NC, Seafood Capital of the World and just 7 miles to the south is North Myrtle Beach. Area golf courses include River Hills, Glen Dornoch, Heather Glen and Cypress Bay.
