Homes for Sale in Murrells Inlet SC
The pirates are long gone from Murrells Inlet, although some say that on quite summer evenings you can see the ghost of Blackbeard slipping into a cove to escape his English pursuers. A hideout for Pirates, the Inlet was also a hideout for blockade-runners during the Civil War, who were smuggling goods and war materials to the Confederacy. For much of the 1700s and 1800s, the area was also home to some of the South’s most productive plantations producing rice, indigo, and cotton. Even as production began to fade following the Civil War, the town was becoming a center for commercial fishing with catches in the Gulf Stream being shipped to the north on schooners.
As inviting, scenic and relaxing a place to be found on the East Coast, Murrells Inlet is a celebration of small town coastal life and home to some of the nation’s top golf courses. Typical prices for single-family detached homes run from under $100K to $3 million plus. A good selection of homes is available in some of the Grand Strand’s newest master planned communities, including Prince Creek with the Tom Fazio designed Tournament Players Club as its focal point. The 3- to 6-bedroom homes there start in the $300s and can range to $800K-plus. Homes in Blackmoor, another popular neighborhood, offer 3-4 bedrooms starting in the mid-$200s. A Centex-built community, Blackmoor is built around the Gary Player designed golf course of the same name. Other popular neighborhoods include Collins Creek, Wachesaw Plantation, Wachesaw East, Willow Bay and Hunters Grove.
For the golfer, nearby courses include TPC of Myrtle Beach, Blackmoor, Indigo Creek, the International Club and many others. Nearby attractions include Huntington Beach State Park, Brookgreen Gardens and Murrell Inlet’s Marsh Walk, where some of the South’s best seafood restaurants can be found along with a variety of entertainment in a waterfront setting.
